Our agents bring decades of combined real estate experience along with firsthand backgrounds in agriculture, farming, livestock, land management, conservation and rural property.

Buying or selling a farm, estate or large-acreage property is different from a conventional residential transaction. Land quality, water resources, soils, fencing, barns, conservation easements, agricultural use, recreational potential, historic improvements and the property's location within the surrounding countryside can all affect value and marketability. Our agents understand these characteristics and know how to help buyers and sellers evaluate the complete property.

Our experience includes working farms, cattle farms, horse farms, country estates, historic homes, recreational and hunting properties, rural retreats and large tracts of land throughout Charlottesville, Albemarle County and the surrounding Central Virginia counties.

Gayle Harvey, Central Virginia farm and estate real estate broker

Gayle Harvey

Broker / Owner | Accredited Land Consultant

Gayle Harvey is the Broker and Owner of Gayle Harvey Real Estate, Inc., a Central Virginia real estate firm specializing in farms, estates, horse properties, historic homes, country properties and large-acreage tracts. With more than 24 years of real estate experience, Gayle has represented buyers and sellers of distinctive rural properties throughout Charlottesville and the surrounding Central Virginia countryside.

Born and raised in the Charlottesville area, Gayle's connection to farms and land began long before her real estate career. After graduating from Sweet Briar College with a degree in economics, she returned home to manage her family's farm for ten years. She later moved to Michigan, where she served as marketing director for a large apple operation while earning a degree in Information Technology and an MBA.

Gayle returned to Virginia and began her real estate career in 2002. Her agricultural background, knowledge of land and appreciation for the rural character of Central Virginia naturally led her to focus on farms, estates and acreage. Over the years, she has marketed and sold a wide range of properties, including working farms, horse farms, historic estates, cattle farms, country retreats, recreational properties and large tracts of land.

As an Accredited Land Consultant (ALC), Gayle brings specialized knowledge to the sale and purchase of land and rural real estate. She also has experience with 1031 tax-deferred exchanges and understands many of the issues that can affect farm and estate transactions, including land use, conservation considerations, property improvements, agricultural infrastructure and the unique marketing requirements of large rural properties.

Gayle believes that successfully marketing a farm or estate requires more than simply listing the house and acreage. Buyers of rural properties often want to understand the land itself: pastures, soils, water resources, barns, fencing, views, recreational opportunities, conservation potential and how the property functions as a whole. Her goal is to identify the characteristics that make each property distinctive and present them effectively to the buyers most likely to appreciate them.

To give her sellers broad regional exposure, Gayle participates in multiple listing services covering Charlottesville and Central Virginia, the Richmond market, Northern Virginia through Bright MLS, and the Lynchburg area. This expanded reach is particularly valuable when marketing farms, estates and other specialized properties whose buyers may come from well beyond the immediate Charlottesville market.

Gayle has also earned the Graduate REALTOR® Institute (GRI), Certified Negotiation Expert (CNE) and e-PRO® designations, and has received training in historic real estate through the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She continues to pursue education in real estate, land, technology and related fields.

Her experience and longstanding focus on Central Virginia farms and estates have given Gayle a deep familiarity with the properties, countryside and rural communities surrounding Charlottesville. She works closely with her clients throughout the buying and selling process and particularly enjoys helping them understand the qualities that make each farm, estate or tract of land unique.

Jacob Gilley, Central Virginia farm and land real estate agent

Jacob Gilley

Farm, Land & Rural Property Specialist

When it comes to buying or selling land, experience matters, and so does perspective. Jacob Gilley brings both. Raised in Central Virginia, Jacob has spent his life working the land, studying it and helping others make the most of it. As a real estate professional with Gayle Harvey Real Estate, he specializes in farms, recreational properties and rural land.

What truly sets Jacob apart is that he lives the rural lifestyle every day. As the owner of JG Land & Livestock, Jacob and his wife Jennifer, along with their four children, operate a working livestock farm focused on sustainable and profitable production. From grazing management to direct-to-consumer beef sales through their Heaven's Hollow Farm brand, Jacob understands firsthand what makes a property productive, efficient and valuable.

Jacob and his family also own and operate Stone Bridge Farm, a restored short-term rental property in Orange, Virginia, along the Rapidan River. Purchased in March 2025, the circa-1882 home was completely renovated while preserving its historic character. That hands-on experience has strengthened Jacob's ability to recognize a property's potential and understand how strategic improvements can enhance both usability and value.

A graduate of Virginia Tech with bachelor's and master's degrees in agricultural disciplines, Jacob combines academic knowledge with practical experience. Before transitioning into real estate, he spent more than six years with American Farmland Trust as a Senior Technical Livestock and Grazing Specialist.

In that role, Jacob worked directly with Virginia landowners to implement conservation practices designed to improve soil health, water quality, wildlife habitat and farm profitability. He also developed knowledge of conservation easements and conservation programs offered through local partners throughout Virginia. That experience provides valuable perspective for buyers and sellers evaluating agricultural and rural land.

Outside of work, Jacob is passionate about hunting, fishing, hiking and canoeing Virginia's forests and rivers. His firsthand understanding of both productive agricultural land and recreational property helps clients evaluate land from several perspectives.

As a military veteran, Jacob approaches client relationships with integrity, discipline and a results-driven mindset. His goal is not simply to help clients buy or sell land, but to help them better understand the property and its potential.
